Hm, strange.
Good to see that you're right, there are "450 Service temporarily unavailable." errors sent out.

Many of them are followed by a msg="502 ESMTP command error",cmd: DATA so I only saw 5xx when looking over the logfile this morning. I assume that this is a misbehaving MTA that sends out further commands after the 4xx error message.

This is actually normal, with ESMTP PIPELINING, but gets logged anyway.

No.  That's the whole point.
