Agreed.  It is truly annoying.

Plus the fact that I can send a message to that user and fake your
>From address.  Then the confirmation will come to you, not me.  If I
do this for 100 different Earthlink users, you will get 100
confirmation messages in your inbox.  Some people treat these as spam
and just trash all confirmation messages, valid or not.  Other people
make a point of confirming all of them so the user gets the spam
anyway.

And you still have to watch your junk mail folder to make sure you get
messages from people who didn't receive (or didn't respond to) your
confirmation request.
