It reproduces quite nicely for me.  I've got several messages in my
queue that give this error whenever they attempt delivery.  Anything I
can do to help you track it down?

I'm not familiar with debugging C code, but I will gladly trace
processes and send you dumps or whatever you need if you can give me
instructions.

I also have a second server with an identical setup.  It's not in
service at the moment, so if I can duplicate this error on that
server, we can change configurations and do whatever we need to do to
make the debugging easier without affecting my customers.

Even if this is just hiding the error message, I have this error 274
times in my mail queue this morning for 11 different messages.  These
are real messages from my customers to people they are doing business
with.  Sometimes the message goes through eventually and sometimes it
doesn't, but regardless, I would like to be able to figure out what
the real error is so that I have something to tell those customers who
ask why their mail bounced.
