There's no such error message in Courier. Figure out what other software you're running that reports this error, and do whatever you need to do to fix it.
Now I'm using db (--with-db=db) database becouse of similar problems with gdbm but there are problems using both. Using gdbm logs shows: courieresmtpd: started,ip=[::ffff:xxxxxxxxx] courieresmtpd: couldn't init cache courieresmtpd: submitclient: EOF from submit. What can be wrong ?
You just can't switch configuration options and reinstall, without reinitializing all configuration files.
