Greetings!

I am in process of configuring a brand-new Courier-MTA. My old server, running Qmail, is currently overwhelmed, but is still in use.

I am working on moving my users from having their mailboxes on the old server to the new server.

When I had everyone on the one machine, they could all easily e-mail each other.

So far I have found it easy to forward mail for individual users who have been migrated from the old server to the new one.

However: I am currently having difficulty trying to find out how to tell Courier to forward mail destined for Unknown Local users back to the old server, instead of flat out saying "User Unknown" and rejecting the mail.

I need to do this to allow those users whom have had their mailboxes moved from the old system onto the new one still be able to communicate with those users whom are still on the old server.

To Illustrate:

The New server, which handles foobar.com, has the new mailboxes for users Jax, Steve, and Mary. The Old server, which Also handles foobar.com, still has accounts for Jax, Steve, Mary, and also the unmigrated users Joe, Richard, Kyle, James, and Bill. The Old server is simply forwarding messages destined for Jax, Steve, and Mary to their respective mailboxes on the new server via a .forward file that is set into their account upon migration. Because of this, Richard can still easily send Jax a message as the old server will just send the message along to the new server. However, because the unmigrated users do not yet have an account on the new server, if Jax attempts to respond to Richard, he is Immediately greeted with a "User Unknown" error as, rightfully, the user does not yet exist on the new machine.

Thus, I am looking for a way to tell Courier that, If it cannot find the specified user on This New machine, to please forward it to the old server.

Otherwise I'm looking at being forced to create mailboxes on the new server and an appropriate .forward file for everyone all in one go before I can even attempt to start migrating people.

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated!

Ray
