Upgrade Berkeley libraries AND openldap, and if you avoid ldbm setup (use bdb),

Well, my non courier LDAP which did go down and which runs the latest
release of LDAP didn't auto recover, which got me thinking about my
courier system.

Anyone have any idea how courier behaves on receiving emails when LDAP
is down? Reject as email address unknown or reject as temporarily out
of service?

If the LDAP server is completely down, and not responding, mail will be rejected with a temporary error indication. If the LDAP server is up, but responds with some kind of an error, the mail will be rejected with a temporary error indication. If the LDAP server is up, but responds with an ordinary "no matching record found" reply, the message will be rejected with a permanent "mailbox not found" error.
