sorry, have not read that...

on a linux 2.6 kernel here with debian etch
clamcour has a 19m RSS memory footprint, 
pythonfilter with clamav has a 23m RSS memory footprint
clamd uses 18m RSS memory

you do not need clamd if you use pythonfilter or clamcour.

If I understand things right, courierfilter api is *very* efficient if
you look at the whole mail delivery process.

Also I think it as very important to filter outgoing email for
viruses. 

what do you think is "efficient"?
