I'm not sure what you mean by "customisable HTML." It can be translated,
which is a quite daunting task already. BTW, a courier-mta-wiki might be
helpful for sharing that stuff. Having to add local customizations to the
html templates on every upgrade is not easier that maintaining a local set
of source code patches. YMMV.
