First of all, thank you for your detailed and informative answer ;-)

I was now looking on the system I use, but there is one more open question...

In the users directory, at the same level as "Maildir", there is a folder 
"@attachments" (which is currently empty).  Does this folder usually contain 
any usefull information? Lots of my e-mails have attachments.. so it seems this 
folder might have nothing to do with my attachments.. right?

I believe, now I know all I should... NO! Something is missing... Where can I 
get/read all that kind information? I don't want to bother the whole list each 
time I have a little need... ;-)
