Post the Received headers from the message that demonstrate no 
intermediary hops.

Are you using POP3 to download your mail?  Maybe your mail client is 
screwing up the message, since POP3 also terminates messages with a 
single dot on a line, and requires dot prefixing.

That would only be possible if courier did not prefix '.' on a line with 
another '.'.  If it failed to do so, it could not send messages which 
consist of only a single '.', so that conclusion isn't supported by any 
available evidence.
