I think this could help: from man maildropfilter ... ESCAPE(STRING) - ESCAPE SPECIAL CHARACTERS IN A STRING. escape(expression) ... Though you have to be careful when your shell is bash, since you cannot have a single quote inside single quotes, even when it's preceded by a backslash. Dunno about other shells.
