Yes, it is:
14140 ?        S
0:00 /usr/sbin/courierlogger -pid=/var/run/courier/authdaemon/pid -start
/usr/lib/courier/authlib/authdaemond.mysql
14141 ?        S      0:00  \_ /usr/lib/courier/authlib/authdaemond.mysql
14142 ?        S      0:00      \_ /usr/lib/courier/authlib/authdaemond.mysql

14149 ?        S      0:00      \_ /usr/lib/courier/authlib/authdaemond.mysql
(along with the other programs)

I've currently got it set to 2. The error messages in my last e-mail included
information with that setting.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# courierauthtest [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Trying authdaemon...
Authenticated: module authdaemon
Home directory: /var/mail/virtual/caringnurses.com/test
UID/GID: 5000/5000
Maildir: /var/spool/mail/virtual/caringnurses.com/test
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
AUTHFULLNAME=test
OPTIONS=<none>

That all seems to be correct, except that in the database, home
is /var/spool/mail/virtual/caringnurses.com/test. I don't know that it
matters though, since both paths end up pointing to the same thing:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# ls -l /var/spool/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root   root      7 2008-02-28 23:12 mail -> ../mail
