I think here's what's happening. I mis-spoke above about the contents of /etc/courier/esmtproutes. I did have in /etc/courier/esmtproutes ':viper' since that's the name of the host. When I change ':viper' to ':[192.168.200.3]' the forwarding/smarthost worked. I think my dmz web box has an issue with the name 'viper', though I did have 'viper' in /etc/hosts. Anyway, I'm waiting for a bit to watch legitimate traffic come through the dmz. Thanks for your help, Jerry.
