I have a user who has been afflicted by this bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=359847. The result is a mail folder where `ls | wc -l` says 314941.
Running over a raw IMAP connection, here's what I get when I try select that
mail folder:

. select "INBOX.Old Mail"
* BYE [ALERT] Fatal error: malloc: Cannot allocate memory
closed

I've replicated this issue with courier-imap 4.4.1 stable and courier-imap
4.4.120080920

Here's the hardware/software specs:

Hardware: Dell PowerEdge 2950, 2xIntel X5460, 32GB of RAM, 6x1T HDDs RAID 10.
OS: CentOS 5.2(64bit)
Courier-IMAP build flag(s): --with-db=db
DB version: DB4, 4.3.29
Mail filesystem: 2.8T XFS, mounted with "-noatime,nodiratime,logbufs=8"
parameters.

Suggestions, RTFM locations, all are welcome.

Increase the IMAP_ULIMITD setting in the imapd configuration file. Read the comments in the configuration file for more information.
