Interesting, since I have ESMTP_USE_STARTTLS=0 set on the server that's
handling my mail.

I'll work on this later.  I'm off for a while, probably until Tuesday or
Wednesday.  I'm leaving ESMTP_USE_STARTTLS=0 on both my courier servers
for the time being.
