Hi, list,
I use courier in the middle between the internet and set of Lotus
Domino servers. I have a list of valid recipients on Domino servers, so
in most times I'm able to reject during SMTP session messages that have
no chance to be delivered. But when sender's address contains double @
sign, things get interesting.
Courier accepts them. When it tries to deliver to Domino server, these
messages gets rejected:
>>> MAIL FROM:<el...@[email protected]> BODY=8BITMIME SIZE=3105
<<< 501 Syntax error, parameters in command "MAIL
FROM:<el...@[email protected]> BODY=8BITMIME SIZE=3105" unrecognized or missing
Non delivery report is formed, and for some reason courier decides to
not even try to deliver that NDR with excuse of "No such domain".
Finally another NDR ends up in my inbox:

This is a delivery status notification from sizifas.gmc.lt,
running the Courier mail server, version 0.60.0.
The original message was received on Fri, 13 Mar 2009 12:57:34 +0200
from dsl88-233-43146.ttnet.net.tr ([::ffff:85.97.178.116])
======
I expected report about not present user from parfumlux.ru server.
But more important question is how do I stop messages with @ in
local-part to be accepted in the first place. Is there something built
in in courier, or the only option is special filter? Reasoning behind
this wish is I know I will not be able to deliver them, so I would like
to not accept them.
Well, all the messages with double @ I got were russian spam. But you
never know what crazy thing somebody will start using tomorrow.
