It's always best to run a mailserver (or any app which needs to do freqent DNS lookups) with a local DNS server to reduce load on your main DNS server and keep the DNS caching local and fast. A possible gotcha here is you might need to forward requests for internal addresses/local domains to your main DNS server if needed - otherwise you may find internal addresses it needs to resolve either returning one of your external IPs or not resolving at all.
