In Fedora and CentOS, /etc/sysconfig/i18n sets the default system locale:

# cat /etc/sysconfig/i18n
LANG="en_US.UTF-8"
SYSFONT="latarcyrheb-sun16"

This subsequently gets sourced by the login shell, thus setting the default locale for everyone.

I am looking for where other distros and platforms define LANG and/or LC_ALL, in the same manner, so this can be incorporated into the configure script.
