And the limitation of using precompiled binaries leaves you in a situation where you've got to live with the compilation decisions of the binary maintainer, which is the pickle you are in right now. You need to work around their configuration now that you are using it, or compile your own. If you are able to change it manually after reboot to get it working, then presumably you could script it and add it to a startup script as a crude workaround.
