Howdy folks,
The subject says it all. A customer of mine is trying to receive emails
from the address [email protected]. Some of them are being
rejected with "534 message header size exceeds policy limit". What
exactly causes this error,

The sender is sending an email message with a single line longer than 4999 characters, or a combined length of a single folded header line exceeding 99,999 characters long, or more than 500 header lines total.

and can I do anything about it?

Tell the sender to fix their broken mail server. The maximum size of a line in an email message that SMTP servers are required to accept is 1000 chararacters. No email server is required to accept any email with a longer line. Similarly, no email server can expect others to receive from it a combined header line that exceeds 100,000 characters in length, or more than 500 headers in a single message.
