Manao ahoana, Hello, Bonjour,

On a box running courier POP and IMAP, I accidentally made a
  # find /home/ -type f -name 'courier*' -exec rm {} \;

That removed all the files used by courier. "subscriptions" are safe.

Some users complained to lose e-mailsn but I think it's just a matter
of indexes or cache.
I have heterogeneous environment (Outlook, Thunderbird, Evolution,...)
sing POP and/or IMAP.
How to rebuild ~/Maildir/'courier*' files? (No matter if IDs
change, the important thing is to make users not complain about losing
emails)

They get rebuilt automatically. If their mail client shows nothing, their mail client got confused by the metadata changing. Tell them to delete and recreate their IMAP or POP3 account in their mail client.
