Try to comment out TLS_PROTOCOL (same for TLS_CIPHER_LIST). Then courier uses the default which works fine for me (starting some time ago, now at 0.60.0-2). If that works: Perhaps consider using the default configs from Lenny, diff them to the old ones and only change the things which are really needed.
