they should be on the server, and outgoing email still isn't working. I hope that didn't ruin my chances in getting help with my issue.I tried some variations of esmtproutes (and corresponding changes in esmtpauthclient when trying with gmail) but I get the same "authentication required" error. See Below:esmtproutes :smtp.att.yahoo.com,587 >> mail gets bounced with auth required
A couple of general things for you to check.* Check for leading/trailing whitespaces in all the config files. They can, sometimes, matter. Specifically, ":smtp.att.yahoo.com,587" should not have a leading whitespace.
* I don't remember offhand that, if specifying a smarthost with a non- default port, like smtp.att.yahoo.com,587, and if you want to specify its authentication parameters, whether you need "smtp.att.yahoo.com" or "smtp.att.yahoo.com,587" in esmtpauthclient. Try using both:
smtp.att.yahoo.com [login] [password] and smtp.att.yahoo.com,587 [login] [password]* This is not always true, but until you have a fairly good comfort level regarding what's going on, always stop and restart Courier after a configuration change, to be certain that it takes effect.

Well, you're talking to the right server, as shown below. Now, you just need to get esmtpauthclient right. The following error message shows that you're talking to the right server, and most likely the right port, so don't touch esmtproutes any more. It's correct. You just need to fix esmtpauthclient. Try specifying both smtp.gmail.com, and smtp.gmail.com,587 as the server name. No colons anywhere, this time.
