I resume this old thread because I think now I have found a possible 
workaround.

Unfortunately the remote mail server's admin is practically unreachable, since 
the remote mail server is being run by one of the biggest italian providers 
(Aruba.it), (in)famous for its low prices and void assistance...

My workaround would be to force 8bit mime conversion on all outgoing messages. 
The docs say I should set the MIME env variable to "8bit" for that. Assuming 
my workaround makes any sense, where should I set the value for the MIME env 
variable? Is there any configuration file better suited for that assignment?
