Claus, you're missing the point.  The _filename_ is .courier-something.
This is an internal courier protocol and has nothing to do with the
address, nor with RFC 2821.  See the man page for "dot-courier".  The
"something" is what is prepended to the domain name to define the email
address managed by the contents of the dot-courier file.

If a virtual mail account contains a folder called "alias", any .courier
files therein define mail processing for mail addresses not otherwise
specified in the user database for that domain name. I believe this is a
courierlocal matter.

Thus, if I have a virtual mail account for the domain name "example.com"
and in the virtual mail setup for that account I have an "alias" folder,
and in that folder I have the file ".courier-xyz", the contents
of .courier-xyz define how mail addressed to x...@example.com is to be
handled.  If I have a file called .courier-x.y for the same account, it
_should_ define how mail to x...@example.com is managed or forwarded.
The address x...@example.com is RFC compliant, but courieresmtpd, or one
of the modules on which it depends, can't see it.
