We use Roundcube with a courier system and it certainly gives us the least amount of support calls. Sqwebmail is incredibly efficient on system resources but it's interface is way too old and weird and confused our clients whereas Roundcube 0.9+ is much closer to a normal desktop program. Unfortunately the best mobile templates are commercial but at least they are available. There is also a heap of plugins so there is a good chance you will find something to work with Lightning.
