Hi, I am just going through the motions described for the Space Catalyst phase on the wiki and wanted to introduce myself and ask if there are any freelancers or solo/micro entrepreneurs that would like to work and participate in the coworking community space.
I have been freelancing (through a business entity Finsignia) since 2001 (it was previously called Bungii when I was in California) for startup, hedge fund and investment banking clients in the areas of software architecture and senior software development and management roles (Ruby, Python, Erlang, Java/J2EE - if that means anything to you). Since moving to the Champaign-Urbana area in 2005 I have thought about starting a coworking space for some time, but since most of my freelancing work has been for businesses in the SF bay, Chicago and Milwaukee areas I didn't feel as if I had built up enough local connections to get this up and running. Today I finally decided to commit myself to doing this, since I really would like such a coworking environment for myself because telecommuting saps my creativity out of me when I am unable work along side (even passively) other creative and exceptional professionals in various disciplines. I created a CoworkingChampaign wiki page to declare my interest in getting setup officially: http://wiki.coworking.info/CoworkingChampaign I would welcome any feedback or advice anyone has for space catalysts to get from zero to opening the doors and offering a quality and successful local freelance community space and collaborative/creative environment.
