Co-workers, Over the past week I have concluded that my organization needs to switch to a fully virtual organization over the next year or so in order to compete & maximize our impact. I listened to the SXSW session earlier today and would love any advice on how to best approach such a conversion as my initial suggestions have received pushback.
We have 6 employees in DC, 2 in CA, but scale dynamically up to 25 employees when needed. We also have plenty of online communication across our vendors & volunteers. I think if we can shift to a fully virtualized organization based on independent co-working & layered communication technologies we will gain far more productivity as well as rapid scaling+swarming potential. My current plan is to personally shift into a 100% co-working style over a period of a few months. If I can demonstrate increased productivity & innovation I hope that the rest of my co-workers (in the tradition sense) will gradually opt-in to co-working as well. I'm also going to recruit some virtual interns that I hope will demonstrate co-working's effectiveness. I have skimmed Cluetrain Manifesto but need to fully read it, and I will get "the starfish and the spider" as well. Just joined the google group and need to check out the wiki.
