We use a django application I wrote to track space usage and membership. Did you see those fancy numbers I threw out on the list a few days ago about how many members we have of each type? I got that from the application. While we use software to track things, the interface is a sign-in sheet at the front desk. This is only used for drop-in members as residents and regulars can just sit down and get to work. I would be happy to share the software but it would need some work to package it up and make it pretty. I'm a back in database guy... enough said.
