Hi, I could not find a thread specifically covering this one so I thought I'd post. I cant't be the only that has faced this one. I hope....
TheWorks (http://www.theworks.cz) is a fast growing international community of indepent workers, entrepeneurs and startups in the Czech Republic (mainly Prague) and next to interacting online we do casual coworking events (Jellies) that are very popular and if the space we use (a creative cafe) would not be limited to around 20, these events would be big. All fine, you'd say. The community is getting a free taste of what Coworking is about, are getting to know each other and most importantly , can get their work done. I had decided on going this route (online community and casual coworking) when I was about to sign a lease in spring last year with no clue if I could get the community together and the space filled. I decided to take Alex' and others advice; community first, then the space... (the #1 tip for all of us !!!!) 1 year later, TheWorks (started in December last year) is getting quite some traction and visibility and the popular Jellies show that there is a need. And now what's next??? When is the right time and what is the right approach to re-consider investing money, opening a space and hopefully converting part of this community to paying members? Are these Jellies popular because they are free? Will people stop coming when I'd ask them to pay? Should I start a space and run Jellies in the old form at the same time? Is the community not big enough yet to convert a decent amount of people to paying members? Etc, etc.... Your initial response will probably be; ask the community! I will probably do just that but would like to get some opinions here first.
