Jacob, We totally feel your pain and while there are several solutions in this space they aren't cheap and difficult to manage.
We are working on a solution now that we will beta test with Blankspaces and based on results make our solution available. Your idea is a good one but it will still be difficult to pinpoint a problem and the culprit just by restricting by MAC address.
