Afternoon everyone, Wanted to stop back in and announce that we are finally opening our coworking space here in York, PA. We call it Project Sandbox...for now. In a few months, as the community settles in we plan to allow them to redesign the entire brand from the ground up as a community building exercise. But I digress...
A little background. Our city is dying. It is dying in the sense that young people and small businesses have very little incentive to locate or even work downtown. It's a shame really, because it is, for the most part, a beautiful place. It is also a fractured city. Now, when I say that, I refer not only to small business owners, but creative and musical types as well. There exists a vast number of niche and separated groups within each category with not place to call home. No place they can come together, learn about each other, and move forward. It is our intention to create that space. The first step is the Sandbox of course. We have approximately 1100 sq-feet within a block of the square, given to us by the landowner for 6 months. If the plan succeeds--and we think it will--we can keep the existing space or move into approximately 5,000 sq-feet in the basement of the building. A basement that houses an old speakeasy stage among other things. So while we are creating a coworking space (in which I will be working myself of course), we are also extending the concept to the artistic and musical communities within our area. We want to give them the same opportunities for collaboration and cross-pollination that most of us lose upon leaving academia.
