There are two projects I know of that are making their own systems like this. Workentile and Bucketworks are both crafting solutions and we are going to have a hackathon in December to talk about a unified solution and the software that goes with it. You should reach out to those two groups and see if you can join them. Of course there is also a certain satisfaction that comes from rolling your own.
