My space is set up as a for-profit entity. I don't pay myself anything now and really don't plan to for another 2 years. If all my numbers come together, I will, one day, have a part time employee and a wage for myself! Whoop whoop!
Also notable--keep your eye on the Low Profit Limited Liability Company (L3C) for short. It's a new LLC designation that is starting to come down to some states. It's not in mine yet. Basically you can get a tax break if you can prove that your business has socially beneficial aims with profit as a secondary goal. More info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L3C Has anyone out there become an L3C yet? -Angel On Jan 17, 6:01 pm, The Orchestrator <ray...@gmail.com> wrote: > Hello and thanks for reading this thread--- > > For those of you who are in the Coworking Business for a Profit, I hope you > to see you in Austin, TX on March 10th for the first annual U.S. coworking > unconference so that we can share information and stories on how to make a > coworking space into a for profit business, meaning your "profitable" > because you have the ability to pay yourself a salary as a main source of > income. > > To say your coworking space is "profitable" is one thing but to say I make a > comfortable living/income running a profitable coworking space is another > thing. > > I hope we can come together to help each other toward a goal of being > entrepreneurs and making a comfortable living, AND running a profitable > coworking space. > > Let's keep in touch and many thanks! > > > > > > > > On Wed, Jan 12, 2011 at 9:56 PM, Orchestrator <ray...@gmail.com> wrote: > > Hi all, > > > As I'm reading through all the coworking discussions, I have a few > > questions: > > > 1) Are you operating your coworking facility/office space solely as a > > "for profit business" or are you just gathering a bunch of like-minded > > people to help share in the cost of the rent? > > > 1a) and did you receive a great deal from the landlord that you know > > very well (friend or family) because vacancy rates are probably at all > > time high? > > > While I've heard some people with a coworking office/business say, "We > > are profitable"... > > > 2) If so, are you doing this 100% as a for profit business and paying > > yourself and other employees (not including spouse, children or other > > family members who will work for peanuts) from this coworking > > business? > > > 3) Or, are you having to run another business within the coworking > > office space (say a marketing consulting services company), thus > > combining both incomes to satisfy the "take home pay" range in order > > to support you and your family? > > > I'd be curious to hear from those who are Coworking as "True Coops" > > and those who are in it as a "For Profit" business. > > > Right now, I'm on the fence. > > > Thanks! > > > -- > > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > > "Coworking" group. > > To post to this group, send email to coworking@googlegroups.com. > > To unsubscribe from this group, send email to > > coworking+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com<coworking%2Bunsubscribe@googlegroups > > .com> > > . > > For more options, visit this group at > >http://groups.google.com/group/coworking?hl=en. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Coworking" group.
