Hi there, I work for the local council in Devon, UK, and we are investigating what we can do as a council to establish a network of coworking locations through our county, bringing forward new faciltiies, enabling existing independent operators to come into the network etc. We clearly want each space and community to be unique, but we also see benefit in having the economy of scale of a network of local spaces across what is a mostly rural county - eg we have 28 market and coastal towns, and one city.
I would appreciate advice from others who have experience of this - and views, good or bad, from the wider community. I am also investigating any "off the shelf" packages that would offer us an easy means to handle bookings across several sites that could incorporate a membership function. Any recommendations? Pointers? Is it a bad idea for councils to get involved - should we just encourage the private / thrid sector? What useful contribution can a council have to kick-start coworking locations, specifically in a rural area? Interested in your thoughts on any or all of the above!
