Hi there, Quick update on what we are doing in Devon, a rural county in south west England, to develop a network of small work hubs to service the high number of coworkers / home workers / home-based businesses that we have. Full information is available here: http://www.devonworkhubs.co.uk/
Having done a stack of research<http://www.devonworkhubs.co.uk/work-hubs-feedback/latest-research-published/>into demand, and running jellies, talking to businesses and potential communities, spoken and visited other Hubs, we are now looking to bring forward a couple of pilot work hubs in Barnstaple and Totnes. Our presentation in Barnstaple can be viewed here<http://www.devonworkhubs.co.uk/work-hubs-feedback/successful-work-hub-event-in-barnstaple/>, and we have an event coming up in Totnes on 19th July<http://www.devonworkhubs.co.uk/work-hubs-feedback/totnes-event-planned-for-19th-july/> . As a county council <http://www.devon.gov.uk/> we see our role to facilitate, support, market and encourage those who wish to develop hubs. We even have some funding! :-) A key strength, as we see it, and without getting ahead of ourselves, is the opportunity to bring forward locally owned and run hubs and communities of coworkers, but under the umbrella of a Devon-wide network, with a membership and booking system that lets members book meeting rooms / workspace across the county. This allows us to bring the benefits of an economy of scale without compromising the autonomy and local flav our of individual hubs. Our next steps are: - to continue working with local communities to identify local coworkers, premises and champions who may wish to get a physical space off the ground - source a booking and membership system to enable workhubs and members to plug staright into the network - to refine the offer that we as a council can bring to the network - help establish the first workhubs I've been taking a great deal of learning from this coworking group and from other sources online - thanks to all contributors. I would welcome any input, thoughts that any seasoned work hubs have to offer - especially those who are located in rural areas.
