I have an idea for something I don't think really exists right now. I'm thinking of organizing a free meetup group for freelancers to meet at a particular time and place (a cafe probably) once or twice a week to cowork. I can't really afford the fees at established coworking spaces and none are within 30 minutes driving distance of my house, so I thought this might be an interesting solution, especially for those who work part-time or are students.
It would basically be like working solo at a cafe, but there will be other freelancers and creatives there so you still get some of the structure, social, and networking opportunities of an office or coworking space. I was thinking of meeting somewhere like a Panera or Corner Bakery where there's WiFi, outlets, free parking, food, and plenty of seating. I was wondering what you all think of the idea. Also, if anyone is in the Pasadena area, feel free to send me an email if you're interested in getting more information about the group as it develops.
