Hey everyone, I've been reading a lot online about coworking and understand my first step should be starting a group first so that I have built-in customers when I open the doors one day. But how do you get the people interested and engaged and get their buy-in when you don't have space yet?
I've started a meetup.com group and hope to get a group of people who are linked together through common customer types to create a collaborative synergy. I thought I'd hold "sessions" and have them pay a small fee as a way to start collecting capital. I would also offer "Charter Memberships" for larger fees to gather stronger commitment and build capital faster. These would be held on coffee shops or party rooms in restaurants or donated conference rooms around town. Then I thought I'd offer Underwriting opportunities where people (not necessarily members) can provide coffee, bagels, lunch, conference rooms, etc. For a fee in exchange for advertising with the group ( logo on a sign displayed on the table, mentions on my meet up.com page, 15min to pitch their business to the group at a session.) this would also be for the purpose of raising capital as well as gaining exposure and interest in the group. Does anyone have any advice about this? Is this the way other successful companies have done it? What are other ways to get started? Does anyone with experience see any inherit issues with this plan that could work against my goal?
