Hello all,

Announcing a new coworking community and space, Connect Ventura. We will
be open July 1 in 8,600 square feet of beautiful space at 50 W. Main
Street, Ventura CA. The website is in draft, best online presence for now
is our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/50wMainVentura

We are affiliated with Bell Arts Factory, four blocks away. I founded Bell
Arts Factory, and own both buildings. Check out http://bellartsfactory.org/

I've been lurking around here, and getting up to speed as fast as possible
on coworking. There are lots of very interested and enthusiastic people in
Ventura who say they want to participate, so we shall see!

We are very fortunate to have a building with basically a perfect setup
already built out. A dozen or so open lid offices around the perimeter, a
hard lid conference room, and a range of more and less open spaces in the
center, so a lot of flexibility on the private - public spectrum of space.
Very clean kitchen, two bathrooms with showers, all ADA compliant, a big
deal in CA. Natural light high ceilings, just a very pretty space.

The tenant who is moving out is leaving behind all of the IKEA office
furniture, and high speed internet and wifi is installed and staying turned
on. The whole building is wired with ethernet, and a LAN. I know, amazing
right?!??

So now I just have to figure out the business model, sign up a bunch of
people, set up the back end, build community spirit - easy, right? HA!!!
I know the really important part is the community, not the space. We are
fortunate in having a strong network from our Bell Arts work, but I am not
kidding myself, this is very different, and we are starting from scratch in
the coworking realm.

There is an amazing gap between Santa Clarita and north of Santa Barbara
for coworking. A couple of people have looked at it, but getting the right
spot and making the numbers work has kept them from going ahead. We are
just fortunate to have a building that works. Given the size of the space,
finding a single tenant in our market to take the building is a tough
challenge. The current tenant has been there seven years, and is moving to
smaller quarters. So I've decided to be my own customer and set up Connect
Ventura.

Starting July 1 I am going to basically live there, open the doors, and get
the community into the space, let the energy flow. We are right next to
Patagonia's photo studio, a block from WAV, an arts live work space, and in
the old town of Ventura, a very fun area. So a great vibe in the
neighborhood, should be a blast.

I am going to use this thread to track progress. It is really encouraging
to find this wonderful open source community of global coworkers, so
willing to share victories and challenges, pitfalls and resources. Thank
you!! You have all helped me decide to make the plunge, I am ever
grateful. The adventure begins! Thank you!!

Josh
