I just spent the entire day so far looking at real estate in Philadelphia (no,
we're not opening another location. Just exploring).

I realized something as I was walking back to Indy Hall. The reason why those
of us who want to open coworking spaces are quickly tempted into focusing on
space, real estate, square footage, and location is simple:

It's fun to dream.

Empty space is a blank canvas. It's infinite potential. It contains all of the
answers! All of the things that people will be able to do once it's open. Oh
yes, it's going to be glorious!

And then I came back to Indy Hall.
What members? What community? I'd literally dreamed up a bunch of imaginary
friends simply by looking at a new space. It was that easy, even for me who
sometimes preaches "build a community!" like it's a magic potion.

I spent a few hours today dreaming based on a space. It was a rush. So I get
why people do it.

Just remember that when you come down off your high, there's work to be done
(http://dangerouslyawesome.com/2012/07/building-a-community-is-real-work/), and
community to be built.

If you're already on my workshop list
(http://indyhall.us4.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=fb0fa92e5dca45a8ec5d4dfe1&id=3b579bc08e)
or subscribed to coworkingweekly.com (http://coworkingweekly.com), you may
have seen the link below. Hopefully this is a friendly reminder of the ideas
you've gotten in your inbox over the last week.

For the rest of you, I wanted to send out a reminder that there's just over a
week left to get early bird pricing ($200 off) on my Community Building
Masterclass in September. I'll spare you a repeat of the details since it's all
over here --> https://indyhall.stagehq.com/events/1610

Masterclass FAQ
Q: Do I have to come to Philadelphia?
A: Nope! This workshop is 100% virtual and online.

Q: What about time zones?
A: There's one weekly portion to the course (office hours) that's at a specific
time, everything else is on your own schedule. Currently the course has people
registered from around the world, so office hours will be scheduled according
to actual time-zones represented. We'll make it work, promise.

Q: My space isn't open yet/just opened/has been open for some time. Is this for
me?
A: Community building never stops, and it's never too late to start (you just
have some additional work to do later in the game).

Q: But my space isn't all community-oriented like yours!
A: That's not a question. :) But here's the truth: while the tools you'll learn
in the masterclass are being taught with "community building" in mind, you'll
be learning techniques that are useful for improving any shared space -
incubators, accelerators, coworking spaces, even "normal" company offices.
Culture is different everywhere, this will help you make the most of yours,
whatever it may be.
