I'd talk to the crew at Gangplank - they have one of the most "intimate" relationships with their government that I know of.
We've taken more of a "Kennedy approach" by focusing not on what the gov't can do for us, but what we can do for the government. It's been pretty incredible to be able to forge personal relationships with leaders in city hall before asking them for things because they're USED to being asked for things. When we show up, they can safely assume that it's because we want to help, support, or do something to lighten their load and they're far more likely to get behind us as a supporter in a more powerful way than we would have been able to ask for. I also just had lunch today with our local fellowship alum from Code for America, who have played a big part in helping cement our relationship with the city. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that it's one thing to go in looking for support. Odds are, you can help them in ways they don't even know how to ask for. And that's a two way street, because the things they can do to help you in return are the things you wouldn't know to ask for, either. -Alex -- /ah indyhall.org coworking in philadelphia building a community? http://masterclass.indyhall.org On Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 2:40 PM, lars hasselblad torres wrote: > Hi folks, > > Thanks for your insights on the visa/passport opportunities - very helpful. > Another request for you: > > Do any of you have some good examples of either getting early support from, > or developing partnerships with, government at any level, from the municipal, > state, or federal?
