MARCH 22-23, 2013
RENAISSANCE HOTEL, WASHINGTON, D.C.
Learning spaces affect learning outcomes.
Share your space of invention at Open 2013.

Spaces of Invention @ Open 2013 is an exploration of the spaces in which we
educate young innovators. We'd like you to share the inspiring physical spaces
where invention and innovation happen, the spaces that catalyze collaboration
and have an impact on pedagogy, curriculum and most importantly on the outcomes
for our students.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
We are hosting a plenary session dedicated to this topic at Open 2013, our
annual conference. Sign up now to participate in that session, giving a brief,
dynamic presentation at the Smithsonian's Lemelson Center for the Study of
Invention and Innovation at the National Museum of American History. Click here
for guidelines and to apply.
Present your space in one of the conference poster sessions. To submit, log in,
select "Apply for a Grant or Enter a Competition," then click "Select an RFP"
and navigate to "NCIIA 17th Annual Conference Call for Posters."
Attend the Spaces of Invention track at Open 2013.
The Spaces of Invention plenary session will take place before the launch of
the Open Minds event on Friday, March 22. Selected participants and their
spaces of invention will be considered for possible inclusion in a signature
piece of the Lemelson Center's 2015 Places of Invention exhibition: an
interactive map accessible to in-person and online exhibition visitors.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

You can also take part in the Program Models track at the conference. It
follows a similar structure to Spaces of Invention, but looks into the teaching
of entrepreneurship and innovation. We want to know how you are changing the
culture on campus. Find out more here.

What are people saying
about Open?

This was my first time at NCIIA and it was FANTASTIC! I am definitely coming
back. So many of the talks I went to covered tangible things (tools, contacts,
exercise, frameworks) that I can use in my class on commercializing new
technologies. It was truly a valuable use of my time to come to the conference!

This was probably the most informative meeting I've ever attended with respect
to discovering what other
institutions are doing similar work!
