I don't see anything wrong with inviting a couple of people over and see how it goes. As I said, 250 sq ft is quite small for a couple of people at a time without it getting really cramped, but you + one or two other people might be better than you being alone.
That said, if what you're really looking for is community, you might find better results from finding a public or semi-public space like a library or cafe and periodically work together in space that's less cramped . If it goes well, you could work your way up to a larger office. Community can be built anywhere, and there are actually quite a few advantages of not having a permanent space yet while you're building your community. The worst that could happen is it stays your current office and everything goes back the way that it was.
