FWIW:
When the journo contacted me, he had an angle already from his editor and he was to be covering the large new space at the end of the story. The focus of his questions was more on the application process and "curation", wondering if this was a common practice since their pitch made it sound like it was a unique tactic. I spent a good amount of time with him explaining the landscape, the variations in approach, and introducing him to a few other people in the ecosystem. The biggest win, IMO, was that he interviewed a lot of space MEMBERS, who were featured more prominently than I was expecting. So all in all, while I think this piece ended up "fluffier" than I would have liked it was a lot better than I expected (and not just because of that epic photo placement that Indy Hall got - that was VERY unexpected, especially given the minor role my narrative played in the story). I think its important to remember that it was the Style section of the Times, and to consider the audience. Bottom line, though, is that he explored a LOT more ground than he originally intended to and that's a good thing. Also, more people know about Coworking now and that is a GREAT thing. Sure, it's hyphenated and not the article any of us would have written, but this is by no means the shittiest article the Times has run about our precious coworking. And there's plenty more press to come, better and worse than this example. Let's just keep making stories worth telling! -Alex On Mon, May 6, 2013 at 11:02 PM, Eli Malinsky <[email protected]> wrote: > Hey > Forgive me if this was already posted, but I didn't see anything regarding > this article on coworking ("co-working", sigh) in the New York Times this > weekend. > http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/05/fashion/solo-workers-bond-at-shared-workspaces.html > Focus seemed to be on the glitzy side of the movement more than the > community... > Eli Malinsky > Centre for Social Innovation > Toronto & New York City > -- > Visit this forum on the web at http://discuss.coworking.com > --- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "Coworking" group. > To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an > email to [email protected]. > For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/groups/opt_out. -- Visit this forum on the web at http://discuss.coworking.com --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Coworking" group.
