Office Nomads is also in the process of a website redesign (wowsa - so
exciting!), and have been thinking about the same aspects that y'all are
focusing on. For what it's worth, I'll add in my list:

1. Show what your space looks like (and I'll echo Alex's recommendations
highly - photos without people in them or stock photography that isn't
actually of your space should be avoided). It helps people become familiar
with your space before they walk in the door, which can make walking in
feel a little less of a surprise. :)
2. Explain what your community/space is about, but as briefly as you can.
This is the challenge for us in our redesign right now - our website is
chock-full of lots of language that I'm working hard to trim down.
2a. A sub-item here would be to explain who you ARE, not what you're not.
Focus on the positive and give people entry points - not reasons to stay
away.
3. Inviting people to see what it's all about is absolutely key. That's the
biggest element we're looking to incorporate into our new site.

That's not 7, but these three points are the centerpieces around which
we're working to redesign.

Good luck all!
