We use meetup for a lot of our events - we're in the fortunate position to be
in a patch of an urban area that's lacking in technology-focused events, so we
provide our space for meetup use.

I run one weekly meetup, 1 free monthly meetup, and 2 other monthly meetups for
which I charge. We've got about 4-5 other organizers who run monthly meetups
that we host here. All of those have a fee associated w/ them (which is paid
either by the organizer or the attendees).

So yeah, meetup.com is really key for us.

We also market events through Facebook, our newsletter, and the personal
network of individual members.

It's not as effective as I'd like, but we've got a critical mass that's drawing
people in.

I find that the free events attract almost zero new coworking members, but get
us good word of mouth. $5 events seem to be really useful (and we actually
have a "meetups only" membership type as a result), both in terms of attracting
people and filtering out the freeloaders.
