Dear Captains,

As we enter the last few weeks of Mays training, please ensure the
followingremindersare disseminated to LBCs, VCs, Coxes and Coaches:

- Coxwains/steerspeople should ensure the river is clear inbothdirections
before instructing their crews to push off.
- Whilst it is expected that faster crews will overtake slower ones, overtaking
is only ever permitted where it is safe to do so. If your cox can't see that
the river is clear for the entire duration of your overtake, they shouldn't be
initiating one. The corners and the crossover points are not acceptable
overtaking spots.
- Crews heading upstream (i.e. towards the boathouses) have priority at the
cross-over points. That being said, if there is a crew (or even a slow moving
narrowboat) already coming through, you do not have the right to try and
squeeze past them. Stop and wait.
- No weekend rowing before 11am, even in small boats. Only CRA clubs and people
training with University Squads may row before 11am on Saturdays and Sundays.
- The evening men's and women's hours are still in place, and enforceable with
fines. Crews which are not first boats (or in the first two divisions of the
Mays - seewww.cucbc.org/bumps/startorder/16), may not row between the hours of
17:30 and 20:00 on weekdays. IVs may row over the lock during these hours, but
only if the crew is comprised of people who could be out in an VIII. Please
ensure this message reaches LBCs in particular.
- Please keep Early Morning Noise to anabsolute minimum. Just because it is
light, it doesn't mean you can wake up local residents, especially before 7:30am.
- Crews rowing below Baitsbite lockmust not carry out standing startsbeside
moored boats (particularly in Horningsea - the first set of houses you come to
heading downstream). Please also be vigilant of the swans and cygnets around
that area, and be prepared to stop a piece if necessary.Ideally, try to start
piecesbelow the last moored boat(just downstream of that massive house), and
remember you should not be racing through Clayhithe bridge or the
marina.Wherever possible, coxes should attempt to reduce wash alongside moored
boats and use their common sense on what is and isn't acceptable.Sparring is
not permitted below the lock.

Best wishes, and good luck with training,

Conor
