I can't help with you ultimate question, but just a tiny suggestion:

All,

Please forgive if this is the wrong place to ask.... I am not sure where to
turn. If you could simply point me in the right direction for a better place
to ask, I would be grateful.

Google nor any list I can find seems to have an answer... trying to
install perl module Net::Ident, I get make test errors as follows. I'd
really appreciate any tips. I've no idea why this is happening (Fedora Core 1):

# perl -MCPAN -e'CPAN::Shell->install("Net::Ident")'

perl -MCPAN -e 'install Net::Ident'

will work just as well, and is shorter to type.

CPAN: Storable loaded ok

t/Ident.....FAILED tests 1-3

usually, when you have a problem with am module, you visit search.cpan.org and find the author and tell him about it.... I think that is your best option.

otherwise, post your question at perlmonks.org and someone may be able to help
you.
