Ack! The decompression software that kicks in by default on file
downloads seems not to have noticed that MacOS X allows longer
filenames. Previous versions of MacOS were limited to 32 characters,
so it's "helping" me by truncating the filenames.

When I unzip and un-tar on the command line, all is well.

I just reported a 'pass' for 0.71, and I'm on my way to fill out a
bug report for the decompressor.
