Hi everyone, Currently about 450 mirrors are mirroring from FUnet; creating a huge load on their system. While there are lots of CPAN mirrors that offer rsync, everyone of course wants to mirror from the source. Rather than just move the load to another single dedicated system; we better do something more sustainable! :-)
As I might have mentioned, the plan is to use Andreas' "rrr" tools to have a group of "instantly updated" mirrors that everyone else can rsync from. This will be able to be a generic "rsync.cpan.org" (or similar) hostname so mirrors more seamlessly can come and go. Anyway - last week we got the new hardware installed for the new CPAN master mirror and I've been configuring it this weekend. Some of the tools are a little rough around the edges still, but I think ready to be tested!
